I'm unable to install this because "No compatible downloads were found." Rather than see a file for Windows, it just says "Free download". Which, in my experience doing game jams, typically means it doesn't realize the files are supposed to be games. Does itch.io know to use Pyromancer - Windows.zip as the Windows build of the game?

Seems like the Windows box got unchecked by accident at some point, try again and let me know if you're still unable to get to the file.

All good now! Got to the end in about 28 minutes! The controls are quite slippery but, honestly, it kind of grew on me. Although, the second boss fight has a pretty tiny window for attacking. But, overall, I enjoyed this! Nicely done!

Beat the first playthrough in 21 mins, although at least 2~3 of those was me trying to get the first health upgrade to no avail (I didn't get it in the end, but I did grab 2 afterwards). The controls were a tad too slippery and made things somewhat unfair, but it was cool nonetheless! I could see this getting expanded upon.

Thank you for trying it!!

The controls took a bit of getting used to for me but if I may offer a bit of advice... The game really wants you to hold forward and keep your momentum and you are actually more likely to die if you try to stop. So if you are dashing and land on a platform and try to stop, it is very hard not to just slide off, but it is actually easier if you just press jump as soon as you land. The fact that you can attack in the air without losing momentum means if an enemy appears you can just kinda plow through it and keep truckin.

Yeah, I felt it was that way near the end (the spike corridors). But since it was my first time playing (and I didn't trust the flying kick much due to starting lag), I just couldn't help myself and stop midway sometimes to check for flying enemies, complicating stuff more for myself. Pretty sure it's an issue that wouldn't matter much on later playthroughs thanks to the intel one'd already have, tho!

Couldn't figure out how to beat the second boss (even after accidentally doing the secret input), and my next few attempts didn't even make it to the boss, so I threw in the towel. Cool game, very gorgeous graphics, but the feel of the platforming wasn't really to my taste, so going through the spikes of that level a fourth time didn't sound appealing. My skill issue aside, I recommend this game.

Sorry to hear that, but thank you for trying! You have to hit it while its shield is down.

The trick to beating it easily for me is to just stand right up against the shield (the shield doesn't do contact damage) and then when it goes to swing, jump and hit it in the head. It kinda seems like you will get hit but if you time it right it will miss. Also one small tip for anyone struggling with the platforming, the game really wants you to just kinda hold forward and keep going, instead of trying to stop on a small platform, just jump as soon as you land on it instead and you won't have to deal with sliding.

This was a fun little romp! My "first play" was 12:29, but that included resetting after about 7 minutes after not being able to get the second health upgrade in part due to the missing the first (Naturally, I made my way back there and turned out not to need it after getting the first one). So my "actual first playthrough" was indeed pretty close to 20 minutes all told.

If there's one annoyance I had, it was that on an XBox pad, Attack and Jump were indeed B and A respectively...except B is to the right of A, meaning the controls were reversed from what I'd call "standard Mario muscle memory". Luckily, I once speedran a game with that "reversed" control scheme, so it wasn't a huge adjustment. But it was one nonetheless.

That aside, this was very cool. I liked the GBC-esque visuals and the music. Recommend if you like platformers!

Thank you so much!! I'm really glad you enjoyed it!
